How it works
Simple steps, fast access
Tenant arrives
Approaches the BearBox touchscreen keypad. The screen shows a QR scan prompt — no PIN buttons yet.
QR code scanned
Tenant holds their QR code (app, printed, or email) up to the keypad reader. First factor verified.
PIN entry appears
The keypad screen switches to PIN entry. Tenant enters their PIN as the second factor.
Gate opens
Both factors verified. Gate opens. Event logged with timestamp, gate, and tenant ID.
Why it matters
Security that adapts to your operation
Multi-factor authentication stops the single biggest weakness in traditional self-storage access: a stolen PIN. When a tenant writes their code down, shares it with a friend, or has it photographed, there's nothing stopping anyone else from walking through the gate. MFA fixes that by requiring a second factor — usually a QR code from the Bearbox app, a printed card, or an email — before the PIN is accepted. A code without the QR is useless. A QR without the code is useless. For operators running high-value stock or business tenants, it's the difference between "we have access control" and "our access control actually works."
Bring your own QR code
Your QR code lives in the BearBox app, in your email, or on a printed card — scan it at the keypad whichever way suits you.
PIN confirms your identity
After the QR scan, the keypad prompts for your PIN. Both factors happen at the same device — no second phone needed.
Stolen code doesn't open the gate
A QR code photographed or forwarded is useless without the PIN. A guessed PIN is useless without the QR code.
Full audit trail
Every attempt — successful or denied — is logged with timestamp, gate, and which factor failed.
