These include PIN codes, QR codes, RFID fobs and cards, the Bearbox mobile app, and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) for vehicle gate access. Multiple methods can be active simultaneously, and operators can configure which methods are available per access point — giving full flexibility across a single site or a multi-site estate.

Yes. Bearbox is purpose-built for automated and unmanned self-storage. When integrated with rental software such as Stora, Storeganise, Space Manager, or Kinnovis, move-ins trigger automatic PIN creation and access provisioning — with no staff involvement required. BearLocks (automatic unit locks) overlock units on overdue payments and release them when accounts are settled, completing the full tenancy lifecycle without manual intervention.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA) requires a tenant to verify their identity using two separate methods before access is granted — for example, a PIN code plus a QR code from the mobile app. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access from a stolen PIN or copied fob. Bearbox's MFA implementation won the FEDESSA Innovation Award at the 2023 European Self Storage Awards, and it can be enabled or disabled per tenant without changing any hardware.

Bearbox integrates directly with Stora, Storeganise, Space Manager, and Kinnovis. When a tenant moves in or out via any of these platforms, Bearbox automatically creates or revokes access credentials in real time. For operators using other management systems, Bearbox also provides a REST API for custom integrations. All integrations are maintained by Bearbox and updated as platforms evolve.

Bearbox's ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) system reads a vehicle's licence plate as it approaches the gate and cross-references it against the authorised plate list for that facility. If the plate is recognised and the tenant's account is active, the gate opens automatically — no app, PIN, or fob required. Plates are registered during move-in or can be added by the operator at any time. Multiple plates can be linked to a single tenancy.

Installation timescales depend on the size of the facility and the number of access points, but a typical single-site deployment takes one to two days on site. Bearbox handles the full installation, commissioning, and staff training. For facilities integrating with rental software, the integration setup is completed in parallel with hardware installation so the system is live from day one.

Yes. Bearbox provides ongoing technical support for all installations. Our support team is available Monday to Saturday, 08:30–17:00 GMT, and can be reached by phone or email. Remote diagnostics mean most issues can be resolved without a site visit. Operators also have access to a management portal where they can monitor access events, manage tenants, and configure the system in real time.
